Poop Poop!

As Toad of Toad Hall would say.

Direct Line have invited me to take part in a Pilot for young drivers to get cheaper car insurance.

They've just sent round a bloke from a company called Toad (they make car alarms etc) and he's fitted a Telemetric Unit under my dashboard. It's all very Jack Bauer - this unit sends a GPS signal all the time I'm driving and from this they can tell where I am at any time and what speed the car is doing.

I qualify for up to 25% discount each month providing I stay within the speed limits and travel within the 'safe' times of 0600 and 2200 - obviously I'm going to lose the second part because of work but I can still get up to 15% off for the speed part.

Each month I get a statement detailing my journeys and discounts available.

I've already disputed this supposed 'Safe Time' with them:
As someone who drives regularly in the middle of the night - the roads are empty!!
What is so dangerous about an empty road.

If you drive at 100mph on an empty road then yes that is dangerous but that is your speed not the time of day.

If you come out of a pub or club steaming drunk and drive at midnight yes that is dangerous but that is the fact that you are drink driver and not the time of day.

In my professional experience the majority of accidents occur during rush hour and involve at least one of the following:

* A school run mum in a Chelsea Tractor.
* A business man in business car not concentrating on his drive either due to mobile phone, SatNav or trying to do paperwork whilst driving.
* Taxis - just don't get me started on taxis.

But hey this little experiment could earn me £10 a month of my insurance, will score me £50 cashback for taking part and the little bug in the car acts as an Anti-Theft device if someone steals the car.

Further reports to follow...........
